Building Better Bags with Gretchen Engle
1 hour Zoom class on March 5 at 10 AM and a 3 hour class in person on Saturday, March 15 from 10-2 PM
In this class you will work from a basic bag pattern, and learn about the many ways you can alter the pattern to achieve different looks. You can change the height of the bag, add more pockets, make a pieced outer fabric, combine different fabrics together, use various handles, and lots of other things to make a basic bag more interesting.
We will start with an hour long Zoom class you can attend from home and I will discuss materials (fabrics, batting, interfacing, webbing, hardware, zippers, etc.), modifications to the pattern and getting everything ready for the second hands-on class.
The second three hour class will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church, where we will set up sewing machines and make our bags. It is important to come to class with your bag pieces prepped and ready for sewing. If you do that, you should finish in class.
Materials needed will be discussed in the Zoom call, but the pattern “Crescent Tote” is required for this class and it would be beneficial to have that purchased before the Zoom class.
Here's a link to the Crescent Tote, which can be downloaded for $11.
